Hocus POCUS
POCUS (point of care ultrasound) is the use of ultrasound at the patient bedside. In ED this is vital to helping us diagnose and treat some of our sickest patients in a timely manner.
Today we ran our periodic in-house training in this skill. Dr Rich Griffiths one of our consultants who spent a year of his training as an POCUS fellow spent the day training 5 of our doctors along with 3 of of EPIC iBSC students.
The day covered the RCEM Core ultrasound competencies of:
Focused Assessment with Sonography in Trauma (FAST)
Assessment of the Abdominal Aorta for Aneurysm (AAA)
Focused Echocardiography in Life Support (ELS)
Ultrasound Guided Vascular Access
Understanding the Physics of Ultrasound
Good Governance in PoCUS
Thank you to Dr Will Eley one of YG's radiology Registra's for coming to help with the training and GE ultrasound for the loan of two additional ultrasound machines to help run the day.
